Cinema in the Creakes

History

This new venture has been initiated by the North Creake Village Hall Committee in connection with Creative Arts East and Village Screen.

Village Screen is a rural touring cinema scheme based in Norfolk and volunteer groups can get together to screen the latest film releases or classic films to create a community cinema in your local village hall.

Following the success of Wells Screen- next -the Sea project which shows films on a regular monthly basis in the Granary Theatre we decided to investigate the possibility of starting this project in North Creake for the benefit of both North and South Creake communities.

Five persons therefore went to Creative Arts East in Wymondham for projectionist training and to gain knowledge of how to erect and dismantle all the equipment which is hired for each screening.

Following this we were allowed to borrow the equipment for a free trial and we invited members of the Village Hall users group to an evening in January where we showed “ Mamma Mia-the Sing a Long Version “ and asked the audience for their comments and suggestions.

It was deemed a success and we will go ahead for a first paid for screening of the “Duchess” on March 17th. Tickets must be purchased in advance as we are limited to 70 places in order to make it a comfortable experience. A licensed bar will open prior to the performance.

As yet no decision has been made as to the frequency of the film screenings especially as we do not expect a demand in the summer months but we do plan to have regular screenings during the Autumn and Winter months.

In addition we are looking at the possibility of purchasing our own permanently installed equipment in order to reduce set up times and to add to the facilities that North Creake Village Hall can offer.

A committee has been set up to run this venture but we still need some more volunteers to run the equipment or help out on the screening nights. Volunteers especially from South Creake would be most welcome. If you are interested please contact either Paul Heron (01328 730333) or Peter Phillips (01328 738959)

We look forward to seeing you at the Cinema in the Creakes.
