REPORT FOR YEAR ENDING APRIL 2012

2011, a year of changes. Some of our regular young players from both Syderstone and South Creake are now of an age when they have started work, so we see little of them. But, to make up for this, there are no longer any grass courts open to the public in Fakenham, including the High School and College courts. We are now seeing new faces from there, and whole families turning up to play tennis who, up till now had been casual players. We await developments.

The courts opened in early May and were last used in the first week of September. Four families took out membership, one local and three visiting families. There were three coaching sessions with Richard Smith during August, with village children, all under the age of 12. People are prepared to travel to play on grass, however the numbers of village people playing was low, as was the overall number of hours of play this year.

For the first time, the club was able to take up its allocation of tickets emanating from membership of the Norfolk Lawn Tennis Association, and a happy member took a guest to watch a day's play at Wimbledon.

We are solvent, I am pleased to say.

We are hoping to enter the club for the Active Norfolk "Get Into" scheme. This would be aiming to encourage players and those wanting to learn, to join in a 6 or 8 week course. Following this seasonal course, the organisers will aim to have a link with further facilities for those who would like to continue playing. This will not only bring the sport to new players but we hope will bring new players to South Creake.

It is a sad fact but from what we hear of meetings that we attend, many clubs, not only tennis, but football and cricket clubs, are falling by the wayside. We welcome your support in the coming year.

Hon. Chairman
