Sports - Lawn Bowls Club
The season for playing Lawn Bowls runs from the early May through to the beginning of September. The club always wants new players to keep the sport alive in the village. It is not very physically
challenging, therefore all ages can participate. So if anyone who can play wishes to join the club, or anyone who just wants to come along to see the game, or even new starters who may be interested in
trying out the sport, please contact our secretary, Mr K.Britton 01328 823558 for further information.

December 2009

We have received another generous donation from Morrisons and this was used to complete the third pathway along the southern side of the bowls green.
The last path, on the northern side, will be completed when the new Memorial Pavilion, for which planning permission has now been granted, is built.
Our thanks go to Morrisons for their donation.
August 2009
This season we have come second in the North West Norfolk League Division 2 behind Burnham Coronation (147 shots to 158). This means that we will be promoted into the Division 1 League next year.
On 12th August 2009 we played Wells Elsmith in the final of the Sudsidiary Cup (F. Howell Rose Bowl) at Wells Town Bowls Green and won by 66 shots to 55.
This is the winning team with Mr Howell and his granddaughter at the presentation.

We won this cup last year and the following pictures show the team and the presentation by Mr Howell.

The two new paths have now been laid and they look great. It really does make a difference. The bowls catch channel in front of each path has been filled with coloured recycled rubber tyre chips on
top of a weed suppressing cloth mat, this will prevent the bowls being damaged when they drop in the channel. The colour? It is purple and does look good.
A lot more effort has been put into the
green this winter and it has been scarified, aerated and treated with weedkiller and fertilizer. It looks much better than last year.
The season starts on Thur 23rd of April with a game at home against our first new opponent, Anmer. To see how we get on throughout the season, go to the results page on the link above.
Feb 2009
The yearly general meeting was held on Sunday 22 Feb. The work for this season is to renew two paths, due to the gift from Morrisons mentioned below. A start has already been made with the cutting back of the
old concrete path edges ready for the installation of the stop/catching boards. Once these have been completed, 3' x 2' pathing slabs will be laid on top of the old concrete paths. This will raise
the paths up 4" above the green. It was decided to renew only the East and West paths from which the games will be played. The North path in front of the hut will be relaid when the Memorial Pavilion
is constructed and the South path, that which borders the tennis court fence, will be done when the Pavilion is completed.
The original Officials were all re-elected
excepting the Treasurer, who resigned the post due to pressures of work, and a new Treasurer was voted on in his place. It was decided to leave the Fakenham and the North Norfolk Leagues this year
and join the North West Norfolk League instead. The new season will start on April 23rd, at South Creake, and will end on Aug 13, again at South Creake, excepting for any cup matches that may occur
later.
Jan 2009
We have some good news to announce! We have been given a generous donation by Morrisons, the supermaket group, for remedial work on the paths surrounding the green. It is proposed to renew the
concrete with slabs around the three sides not affected by the proposed Memorial Pavilion. Also to install a better ditch around the green at the same time. Our thanks go to Morrisons for their
support of local sports and charity groups.
July 2008
We have been awarded a substantial grant from the National Lottery 'Awards for All' programme to purchase two lawn maintenance machines for the upkeep of both the Lawn Bowls Green and the two Lawn Tennis Courts.
The giving of this award will help the two clubs to maintain the lawns to the standard expected to allow for the continued use of the facilities by all.
The machines have now been delivered and will be used throughout the winter. The scarifier has now been used on the greens to remove the thatch.
